Read Psalm 30 and write out everything you learn from David about prayer.
-There’s healing in prayer.
-Pray about a situation and let go.  Joy cometh.

-Prayer is having a conversation with God. You share your thoughts, desires, thankfulness, concerns, etc.  And in return, He reveals His to you…if you just sit and listen.  Setting a time for prayer, is making time to talk with God.  He wants that one on one with you.

By reading David’s Psalm, to know that even when it seems God is not around, when things are falling about… Just knowing that joy will come in the morning if we constantly pray through our trials and tribulations.  To know God is hearing me and my cry, plea, hurt, etc… he works it out.  Joy comes in the morning!

Read the following short prayers of David and record what is most significant in each prayer about his passion for the Lord.

Psalm 3:3
But you, LORD, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high.

This prayer was about protection from David’s own enemies.  Even in the midst of trials and tribulations, David is praying for God’s protection and that he will remain with his head held high… just kept it moving with the Lord’s protection.

Psalm 5:3
In the morning, LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.

David starts his morning off talking and laying down his requests to the Lord.

Psalm 8:1
LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Giving praise to the Lord, lifting His name on high!

Psalm 18:1
I love you, LORD, my strength.

Proclaiming his love to the Lord and admitting that the Lord is his strength.

Psalm 19:14
May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.

David just wants to please God.  He is stating that the Lord is his steadiness and deliverer.

How do you see David’s heart for the Lord in his prayers?
He has a passion and desire to be pleasing in the eyes of God.  He truly expresses his love for the Almighty.  He uses “love” language. You can tell it comes straight from the heart.

Philippians 4:6-7 (New International Version, ©2011)

6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Notes: After reading these verses, it shows me that prayer is important not only daily, but throughout the day (in the Spirit). It’s a priority. It should be the first thing we do in the morning. We should prayer for one another and for those in leadership. Also, we should pray for our situations. Turn it over to God and He will give you peace that passes all understanding. What a wonderful God we serve! 1 Thess 5:17 says to pray continually. We must be consistent and pray about everything.

The most important truth I learned about prayer today is praying for the needs of others, no matter who they are, is something we should continually. Often, we pray for those who are close to us and ourselves. That’s not what God wants. He wants us to pray and ask in Jesus name so that God can be glorified in the Son. We MUST pray for one another, those in need, and in leadership.
